Positive behaviour intervention

Positive behaviour interventions and supports (PBIS) is a NSW Department of Education regional initiative which has been implemented at Mary Brooksbank School.

PBIS is a whole school approach to behaviour support that encourages students to make positive behaviour choices and take responsibility for their own actions. As part of this initiative, the Mary Brooksbank school rules are written as positive statements of acceptable behaviour and these are displayed throughout the school environment in a number of different formats.  Alternative and augmented communication supports are provided, including visuals and key word signing, to enhance student understanding and access to the rules.

The five Mary Brooksbank School rules are directly linked to an award system which recognises positive behaviour choices through the presentation of awards and ribbons. The five rules are visually represented on each school award to help students make the connection between their positive choices and the Mary Brooksbank School Rules. Students are also awarded bronze, silver and gold ribbons in recognition of the number of school rule awards they have received throughout each term.

The Mary Brooksbank School rules are provided below for your information. Click here for a printable version of the Mary Brooksbank School rules (PDF 96KB).
